I samarbeid med en eller flere portugisiske musikere/komponister, skal deltakerne komponere musikk/lyd/lydkollasjer til «the soundtrack for a trail in the nature of the Azores landscape».

– 10. april.

Azores sit in the center of the Atlantic Ocean, behind Sete Cidades legends and discoveries amidst mists and adverse waters. They are the station that connects Europe to the United States, a land of fishing, agriculture and tourism, a living tectonic plate, a laboratory place for man’s interference in the idea of landscape, an anthropocene of mutations and strength narratives between its people and nature. Mythified Earth, Plowed Earth, Transformed Earth, and even so, Terra Incógnita, Earth to be discovered.

Terra Incógnita takes the idea of travel and expedition to propose a transdisciplinary artistic project that merges with the island of São Miguel and its communities. Based on a challenge addressed to artists of different artistic languages to think musically and performatically a specific territory, it will propose, over the course of two years, four programming moments that will implement new ways of relating to the natural, human and historical heritage of the island. At the base, a selected hiking trail to be activated with site-specific musical creations, multimedia installations and performative acts. At the end, a cycle of talks and other discussion actions that aim to provide a framework for the exchange experience proposed by the artistic residencies.

Conceived as a fundamental space for knowledge and the creation of new exploration  ideas concerning the territorial space of the island of São Miguel, Terra Incógnita will also include the launch of a mobile app that will compile the creations and paths unveiled over time. A living archive, inhabited by the interactions of users, which brings the human closer to the natural, committing them to new paradigms of preservation and improvement of uninhabited territory.

With the support of Amigos dos Açores, Terra Incógnita will point out a set of hiking trails that reveal some of the natural and geological specificities of the island of São Miguel, as well as the stories about different ways of life that mark the social history of the Azores. Being both the inspiration source for the artistic residencies and the presentation stage for the works to be developed, the trails will be one of the main artists of the project.
